Your data

The rights are in the Privacy Notice. This is the part with the buttons.Last updated 2026-08-17

Draft — not yet reviewed by counsel. Wording may change before it is relied on.

1. Export

  1. Go to your account page and confirm your password.
  2. Choose Export. Small accounts get the ZIP immediately; large ones are built in the background and you get an emailed link that works for 7 days, once.
  3. The ZIP contains data.json (every table that mentions you, keyed by section) and index.html (the same, readable, with a plain-English label for each section, the purposes and recipients, the retention schedule, and your rights). Sections that describe other people’s actions towards you — moderation, bans, reports about you — are included but marked as not portable.
  4. Three exports per day. The request and fulfilment times are logged without content, so we can show a 30-day clock was met.

Cannot sign in? Email [email protected] from the address on the account. We answer within 30 days, usually much sooner.

2. Correct

  • Profile, settings, visibility: edit them yourself.
  • Handle: rename from your account page, subject to the reserved-name rules.
  • Email: change it from your account page; the new address is verified before it takes over.
  • Catalog facts (a date, a venue, a segue): propose the correction to the Committee — that is what it is for.
  • Anything else, or anything you cannot reach: email.

3. Delete

Three steps, so nothing is destroyed by a click:

  1. Request. On your account page, enter your password and choose whether your posts go with you (default: yes). Nothing changes yet. We email you a confirmation link good for 24 hours.
  2. Confirm. Click the link. Your account is signed out everywhere and hidden. A 14-day cooling-off begins. The email tells you the date, and carries a cancel link that works until then. Signing in during the period shows the date and the way to cancel.
  3. Run. On the date, the erasure runs: account, email, sessions, consent, notifications, blocks, follows, bookmarks, reactions, requests, prefs and export files are deleted; posts are deleted or left unattributed per your choice; setlist and attendance facts stay credited to “a former member”; the ledger keeps its rows with your account number zeroed; your handle is reserved for 12 months; backups clear within 35 days.

If a legal hold is on any of your content when the date arrives, the account stays hidden and masked and the erasure runs the day the hold lapses. The complete list of what stays is in the Privacy Notice. You can also delete by email from the address on the account; the same cooling-off applies.

4. On behalf of someone else

  • A parent or guardian of someone under 16 with an account: email; on verification the account is closed and erased in full.
  • A deceased member: email with what you can share; we close and erase, keeping the record facts.
  • A person who is not a member and whose information appears in a post: use the report form with the privacy reason; you do not need an account.

5. What we will not do

  • Ask for identity documents. The account email is the proof.
  • Charge for any of this.
  • Tell you who blocked you. That is theirs.
  • Rewrite other people’s posts that mention or quote you, unless they break a rule — in which case, report them.
